The Kompas Story
1960s
It started with two units.
After immigrating to Canada, our founder's grandfather purchased a two-unit property in Chomedey, Laval. It was the beginning of a family journey in Canadian real estate that would span three generations.
1970s–2000s
Three generations. One industry.
As the family's real estate portfolio grew, so did its involvement in the industry. An accounting practice specializing in real estate and construction was established, followed by the acquisition of a third-party property management business. By the 2000s, a third generation had joined, carrying forward decades of experience in real estate, accounting and property operations.
2020
We refused to accept the status quo.
Legacy property management systems weren't built to automate the modern back office. Newer point solutions solved pieces of the problem but stayed away from the complexity of accounting.
The result was an industry forced to settle for siloed systems, fragmented workflows and endless manual work.
So we started building something different.2024
An internal solution became Kompas.
By 2024, our real estate business had grown beyond 4,000 units while leveraging the first version of the Kompas platform.
We had built the software we wished existed, tested it inside a real operating business, and proven that there was a better way. That year, Cory Friedman went all-in on Kompas, assembled an engineering team and began bringing the platform to market.

And we're just getting started.
Today, Kompas supports real estate operators representing more than 20,000 residential units and 10 million square feet of commercial space across three provinces, with a growing team of more than 25 people.
What started with a two-unit property more than 60 years ago has evolved into a mission to build Canada's next-generation property management and accounting platform. Three generations of experience got us here. Now we're building what's next.
